I am a Ferry enthusiast and a Merchant Navy Deck Cadet, I think that this is by far the most excellent site dedicated to the "classy" old ships of days gone by.

I was always interested in the Sealink ships, especially the older vessels. I live in Orkney and we were once served by the ships of the North Of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland Steam Navigation Co.

I once again say, this is a most excellent site, showing all aspects of the sealink years!

Keep it up!!

Hi, my name is Ian Grififith. I worked on the boats during the summer of 1973 as a catering assistant. i.e. washer upper, floor mopper and general nuisance to the Chief Steward. Unfortunately I can't remember any names from that time, I was only there from June to November. But what a summer! One of the best in memory, I think the sun shone almost every day of that Summer, the sea was like a mill pond for the first couple of weeks. I do remember having to go on strike before I'd even got to sail as the NUS lads from Liverpool were involved in some sort of dispute. Right over my seventeen year old head! Love the site, please encourage more people to post their photos. I recognise some faces from long ago and it would be nice to see some more. I've really enjoyed looking at it and visit regularly.

Hi Ian, very many thanks for your comments! Would love to see more photos, especially from the engineering section! I would just take this opportunity to remind contributors that while I do try to post the majority of photos received, only good quality images can be used. Unfortunately a large percentage of photos received are often simply too poor in quality to include.  Kind regards, Justin

Found your site by accident, following a link from Liverpool AIS. It's absolutely superb! What a mine of information. Every holiday, I would be taken by my dad "to see the ships" & remember clearly sitting on a bollard by the CEGB crane watching the ferry arrivals & departures & can vividly recall the odour which heralded the impending arrival of the cattle boats! I hadn't realised just how many different vessels served on the route in Sealink days. You are never too old to learn! Many thanks. John Harden (merseyman on AIS forum)

John, delighted to know you found the site! Rgds, Justin

Superb site which brings back many memories. My father Tom was QM on many of the ships featured as well as the old Slieve series of cargo boats - notably Slieve Donard. My uncle Llew Hughes was also ship's carpenter on the old Cambria and Hibernia and the car ferries. I spent two years as a boy and Asst Steward during my summer holidays on the Cambria in 1963/64.Great times. John Pettinger

Many thanks John, the name Llew Hughes certainly rings a bell!  Rgds, Justin
