Freightliner Terminal
The Brian Boroime at the Container Terminal with the Duke of Rothesay and the Dover in the background. Phil Evans Collection.
Located on the east side of the inner harbour, occupying berths 5 & 6, the Freightliner Terminal was equipped with two 30 ton Wellman Transport cranes for ship to shore movements and two 30 ton Goliath cranes for rail to road transfer. The storage capacity of the terminal was around 700 TEU's (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) with customs clearance available on the spot. Sealink's own fleet of lorries and trailers fed the cranes and ship discharge/loading rates of over 30 containers per hour were the norm.
Before the Container Terminal, the Goods Outward berth.

The new Rhodri Mawr alongside at Holyhead. Note the vent aft of the funnel is painted white, for almost her entire career, this was painted red as a means to separate her from sister Brian Boroime. Beyond, in the drydock, is the Caledonian Princess. British Railways Board photo courtesy of Neil Henry.
